Basic First Aid
For our basic first aid training, our participants are provided with an interactive instructional approach through the use of a DVD/video. Each DVD includes an actual situation that helps them to understand more every session. The main purpose of this training session is to understand and be capable of managing an injury or an illness.
First aid basic covers medical emergencies and environmental emergencies.
Students will be given an American Heart Association card after completion.
The basic first aid training includes 2 parts: cognitive and psychomotor objectives.
Cognitive
- Discussion of first aid steps for medical emergencies, which includes breathing problems, seizures, diabetes and shock.
- Outlining of the first aid steps during emergencies: sprains and bruises, burns and electrocution, bleeding and broken bones.
- Discuss the basic first aid steps for environmental emergencies, such as bites and stings;poison emergencies.
- Discuss other topics such as eye injuries and poisonous bites
- Review the components of CPR
Psychomotor
- Demonstrate the proper way of removing protective gloves
- The use of an epinephrine pen
- Demonstrate how to stop bleeding
- Demonstrate a bandage application over a dressing
- Heartsaver First Aid manuals are distributed to each participant.
